Weekend Preview: 19th/20th October

There are six games across our Rockets Junior Performance Programme and first teams this weekend!

The only first team game is our men’s first team who will be hosting Worthing Thunder in a 7:30pm tip at Nechells Wellbeing Centre.

Coach Smith and the team are undefeated in the league this season, while Worthing are still searching for their first win after losing their opening two games.

Rockets will be looking to take advantage of Worthing’s slow start to the campaign – the south coast side posess the worst defensive record in the league having shipped 212 points so far; a fragility Rockets will be looking to exploit on Saturday evening.

Junior Performance Programme

Under 16 Girls

Rockets Under 16 Girls get the action started as they host Newcastle Eagles at Nechells in a 12:20pm tip.

Newcastle fell to a heavy 111-40 defeat to Manchester Mystics in their only outing so far this season.

Rockets fared slightly better than this weekend’s visitors against the strong Mystics side last weekend and will be looking to get back to winning ways against the visiting Eagles in tomorrow’s early game!

Under 14 Boys

Coach Gaskell’s Under 14 Boys team will be looking to build on last weekend’s dramatic win against Leeds LDM as they prepare to travel back to Yorkshire to face City of Leeds Gold tomorrow.

Rockets sit just above tomorrow’s hosts in the league standings having played a game more, with Leeds currently holding a record of 1-1 after their first two games.

Leeds beat the winless Manchester Storm 82-33 last weekend after an opening day defeat to Manchester Giants Blue.

Under 16 Boys

Our Under 16 Boys team will be looking to kick on from their 1-1 start to the season this weekend, but it won’t be easy with an away trip to the 2-1 Manchester Giants lying in wait.

Rockets beat Leicester Riders on the opening game day of the season before a tough game against Milton Keynes last time out.

After last Saturday’s postponed game, Coach Afonso and the team will be keen to put all of the hard work from the last two weeks’ training into practice tomorrow!

Under 14 Girls

Our Under 14 Girls return to the court this weekend for the first time in three weeks as they look to build on their fantastic 93-27 opening day win at Lancashire Spinners.

Coach Amina’s side are on the road once again on Sunday, this time to Stockport to face the Lapwings in a midday tip.

Our hosts currently sit at 1-1 after their opening two games. A 51-48 loss at Newcastle was followed by a 76-46 win against Manchester Mystics II.

With Sheffield Hatters and Manchester Mystics the only other unbeaten sides remaining in the division, Sunday’s game could prove key as the team look to keep up with the early pacesetters.

Under 18 Men

Coach D’Alva’s game was set to be away from home but is now set to be played on Sunday at The Lighthouse Young People’s Centre.

After a ruthless away win in the cup last Sunday, the team will be looking to pick up where they left off against the 1-1 London Elite.

London come into the game having picked up a tight home win against Huish last weekend after an opening day defeat at Team Solent Kestrels.
