Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust Broadens Rockets Partnership

Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust has broadened its partnership with Rockets to include Shireland Technology Primary – increasing basketball opportunities for its students and providing them with elite basketball coaching.

Rockets have established a fantastic relationship with the trust in recent months, our official partnership launch with secondary school, Shireland Collegiate Academy, back in December 2023 was followed by the school’s incredible performance at last month’s Junior NBA tournament – with Shireland picking up the gold medal in the Year 8 competition and finishing as runners-up in the Year 7 competition.

To celebrate the extension of our partnership, the school’s year 7 team faced off against the year 8 team in front of a packed court at Hadley Stadium yesterday afternoon – with the primary children watching on with enthusiasm and excitement!

After a competitive game the scores ended level, with each team’s MVP receiving their very own Birmingham Rockets basketball presented by men’s head coach, Charles Smith.

Shireland have benefited from increased coaching support from Rockets first team players Michael Price and Reiss Faure-Daley in recent months as well as experienced community coach Ethan Woodward – drawing on the knowledge and experience of some of the regions’ best basketball coaches.

Rockets founder & CEO, Robert Palmer, said: “We could not be happier at the way this partnership has developed, producing significant benefits Shireland Academy and the club.

“The shared values of both organisations and a strong commitment to make it work have been instrumental in providing quality in-school experiences for the pupils not only developing basketball skills but also improving behaviour achievement and attainment at school.

“We look forward to the continued success of the partnership!”

Ben Brogan, who has played a key role in establishing the partnership, said: “I am excited to see the Rockets and Shireland partnership
grow within the trust.

“To offer basketball at such an early age will further enhance the sport in the community and lead to great opportunities for Shireland Trust students.”

We would like to express our gratitude to the Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, as well as Head of Sixth Form Ben Brogan, for their commitment to furthering the basketball opportunities for their students and trusting our dedicated team of coaches.
