City of Birmingham Rockets can today confirm that Men’s First Team Head Coach Paul Douglas will move into a new role and become the Club’s new Technical Director.
A highly respected figure within the Club, Coach Douglas will move from his current post as Men’s First Team Head Coach to take up a crucial role in which he will oversee the progression of the Club’s youth teams and player development throughout the organisation.
Douglas takes on this new position having led our Men’s First Team to a seventh-place finish in our inaugural NBL Division Two North campaign last season.
Rockets CEO, Robert Palmer, said, “We would like to thank Paul for his efforts as Head Coach last season and helping the Club establish our place in Division Two.
“In what was an exciting season for Rockets, Coach Douglas represented the organisation in a professional manner, with great enthusiasm.
“As one of the regions most experienced and talented coaches, Paul used his know-how to help us achieve our goal.
“Without a frustrating spell of injuries and illnesses mid-season, the team could have been destined for the play-offs.
“At this pivotal time for Rockets, we are pleased to support Paul’s move into a new role at the Club. We firmly believe he will be able to elevate the level of coaching and player development at Rockets in this new position, in line with our aspirations.”
Speaking about transitioning into his new role, Douglas said, “I am extremely excited for my new role as Technical Director of the City of Birmingham Rockets.
“This position will allow me to help facilitate the growth of the players and coaching staff towards the club goal of being one of the powerhouses of British basketball at both the junior and senior levels.
“As Men’s First Team Head Coach last season, I had the opportunity to see first-hand the huge potential we have throughout all levels of the club.
“I am looking forward to the appointment of our coaching staff for the 2022/23 season at National League level and also through our Rockets Educational Academy programmes as we implement a club style of play and ethos across all teams”.
We would like to place on record our profound thanks to Coach Paul Douglas for his tireless effort and commitment to maintaining our Men’s First Team’s status in Division Two and look forward to working with him moving forward.
