Luke Okosieme Is Back At Rockets For 2024/25!

City of Birmingham Rockets are delighted to welcome Luke Okosieme back to the club after a season away with Surrey Scorchers in the former British Basketball League (BBL).

Luke returns to Birmingham to join Coach Smith’s talented roster ahead of our 2024/25 National Basketball League (NBL) Division One campaign.

The 6’8” centre will be no stranger to Rockets fans, with his athleticism and dominating presence under the rim a key factor in our historic 2022/23 promotion-winning season.

His performances earned him a move to the BBL with the Scorchers last summer where he would go on to make 26 appearances.

Luke in action last season against London Lions in the former British Basketball League.

Originally a high jumper, Luke represented England at U17, U18 & U20 level before transitioning to basketball.

After playing in Portugal in the 2021/22 season, he moved to Birmingham in the summer of 2022 to continue his studies and subsequently joined Rockets for the 2022/23 season.

He became an instant fan-favourite with his spectacular highlight plays and passion for the club clear for all to see.

His final game in his first spell at Rockets came in the Division Two Playoff Final at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester, where he would cap off an incredible season with 11 points and 9 rebounds as Rockets lifted the trophy.

Luke is looking forward to picking up where he left off and anticipates another successful season under Coach Smith.

“It’s such a blessing to be back at a club that played such a key role in my basketball journey,” he said.

I am grateful for the opportunity that I have to play with such a talented roster, and I believe that we can have another successful season!”

Rockets CEO, Robert Palmer, is equally delighted to see Luke return to the club and is looking forward to seeing him back in a Rockets jersey this season.

He said, “We are really pleased to be able to bring Luke back to the club.

“He made significant contributions 2 seasons ago as the team gained promotion into NBL Division One and I am looking forward to seeing him develop his game further under the tutelage of Coach Smith.”

Welcome back, Luke!

Luke is set to make his second debut tomorrow evening as we play host to Reading Rockets at Nechells Wellbeing Centre (7:30pm tip-off). Click here to get your tickets now!
