It was a positive weekend for our junior programme, with emphatic wins for our Under 14 Boys Premier and Under 18 Women as we edge ever closer to the midseason break.
Coach Afonso Tavares’ U14 side recorded their biggest win of the season so far with a commanding 115-52 home win against Cheshire Phoenix.
Putting up 36 points in each of the first two quarters, Rockets had built an unassailable lead early on in truth, with Cheshire unable to match our relentless intensity on both ends of the court.
Our Under 18 Girls continued their ascent up the league standings later on Saturday with a comprehensive win against Cardiff Met Archers.
The win saw Coach Marcellus Elfrey’s side move into the top three of the Northern Premier League, emerging as 85-32 winners at Nechells Wellbeing Centre.
A good, solid performance saw Precilla Ocrah and Sarah Elfrey top scoring. Strong performances from Annalise Mills and Dani Wallis also contributed to the score line.
Coach Elfrey’s Team are now settling into their place in the Premier Division and look to be in contention for a playoff place on current form.
Sunday saw our Under 18 Men travel to Bracknell to face the Cobras in their latest league outing.
Coach Ricardo D’Alva’s side ultimately fell to a contentious 80-66 defeat on the road.
Bracknell came out of the traps quickly to take a 27-12 lead into the first quarter break before a Rockets fightback saw the deficit cut to just six at halftime.
A frustrating second half saw our hosts eventually go on and take the win.
Coach Daniele Brunetti also saw his Under 16 Boys Conference side succumb to a 53-42 loss at Team Wolverhampton in close contest away from home.
The result sees the team move to 3-3 in the standings with six of sixteen games played.
