Faaris Mughal Returns To Rockets After Two Years Away

Birmingham Rockets are delighted to announce the return of Faaris Mughal to our men’s National Basketball League (NBL) Division One roster ahead of the 2024/25 season.

After joining the club at the age of 12, Faaris progressed through the youth ranks with us playing Under-14s, Under-16s & Under-18s before representing our men’s team in the 2021/22 season.

He was also a key member of our Solihull Sixth Form basketball academy during this time, earning an ABL North All-Conference First Team selection in 2022.

He would depart in the summer of 2022 to continue his development in the USA before returning to the UK to attend university whilst playing for Teesside Lions in NBL Division Two.

Faaris would go on to thrive in the northeast, his most notable outing being a 43-point performance in just 26 minutes against Leicester Warriors back in February – with his 13 threes making waves on social media earlier this year.

A new era…

After two seasons away, our men’s programme is in a much different position to the one Faaris played a big part in helping establish in NBL Division Two back in the 2021/22 season.

He played under then-head coach and current Rockets Technical Director Paul Douglas as the team battled valiantly to secure their place in Division Two, beating Myerscough on the final day of the season to clinch survival.

Since then, our men’s programme has gone on to gain promotion to and just miss out on the post-season playoffs in NBL Division One last season.

Faaris will be looking to showcase his abilities at this higher level of play and contribute to Coach Smith’s hugely talented roster this season.

“Excited to be back home playing for my childhood club!”

Faaris is excited to be back home after a couple of years away and is looking forward to playing his part this year.

He said, “I’m really looking forward to the season and excited to be back home playing for my childhood club.

“I’m ready to do what I have got to do to help the team win!”

Coach’s View…

Coach Smith is equally excited about the prospect of working with Faaris this year and spoke of the impact he hopes he will have this year.

“Farris is a hugely talented 3-level scorer and when he’s on it he has the potential to be best player on the court.

“He’s been working hard all summer and I’m sure he will hit the ground running when the season starts.”

Everyone associated with Rockets would like to welcome Faaris back to the club and we look forward to seeing him in a Rockets jersey next weekend!
