Birmingham Rockets are pleased to enter into a new parternship with Smethwick based primary school Shireland Technology Primary to increase our basketball offering to local schoolchildren.
To mark the beginning of the partnership, Rockets first team player & coach Michael Price and Head of Schools & Community Ricardo D’Alva visited the school to talk to the children about the new basketball opportunities available to them.
This exciting new partnership comes after the fantastic reception our partnership with Shireland Collegiate Academy received back in December 2023 – with a high number of secondary school pupils now actively engaged in basketball.
As we extend our partnership to include Shireland Technology Primary as one of our Rockets Basketball Hubs, Shireland students and neighbouring children in the Smethwick community will have access to a substantial basketball offering – all starting very soon!
As part of our commitment to growing the game in the city of Birmingham and surrounding areas, we are delighted to be working with likeminded schools who share our aspirations to make basketball accessible to all.
Ricardo D’Alva, schools programme lead, said: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Shireland to include further opportunities for the primary school children.
“We are always looking for ways to increase participation from a young age to teach the young people the foundations and key principles of basketball to enable them to maximise their potential in the future.
“Shireland and the wider trust have been extremely supportive and eager to play a key part in providing local children with access to a substantial basketball offering.”
Thank you to Shireland Technology Primary for inviting us into school and to the children for their concentration and enthusiasm – we hope to see you all involved in some of our upcoming sessions very soon!
